In residential areas, burning is limited to the burning of paper products, newspaper, and yard waste (excluding leaves, grass, and building materials) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday (excluding bank holidays). Property owners are required to notify Adams County Department of Emergency Services prior to burning at (717) 624-2101. Property owners can be heavily fined if they do not adhere to the above criteria and or if the fire gets out of control being unattended.

Prohibited Items include: Tires, plastics, mattresses, box springs, chemicals and other synthetic materials. Pictured bellow to the left is a traditional controlled. The picture to the right is burning of prohibited items and as you can see it puts up a nice exclamation point in the sky for everyone to see.
